I worked for 40 years in the oil and gas industry. Straight from my bachelor’s degree in science I started with a major oil service company - Schlumberger - did a MSc in Petroleum Engineering after 7 years and then joined BP. After 15 years there I tried consultancy, working for a small O&G company, consultancy again briefly, and then another small O&G company. I had 40 people in the department I headed up at one stage, and did many roles advising Boards of Directors. It was very interesting work, but too small a minority of us were trying to get the industry to transition towards being greener (with no real help from government), so it was frustrating too.
